I recommend…..
If you haven’t visited the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley, Colorado, I highly recommend you put it on your bucket list of museums to see. Not only will you see a world class 5,000+ square foot model railroad run by volunteers, but also a lot of railroad memorabilia plus the last wooden caboose used […]

Finished….!
Another project finished! This one just went up on eBay today. One of a kind special edition car made by Rapido for the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley, Colorado. The car was weathered with six different weathering mediums. Here’s a look at the finished model:

Progress….
Here I’ve started on the Rapido boxcar. So far I’ve applied acrylic paint to dirty up the car a bit, applied several mediums to the doors then took most back off leaving this effect, and applied a dirt colored powder down the sides. Here is how the car looked again out of the box and […]

Finished….!
This guy is now finished, well, almost! After applying the decals, I’ll be lightly spraying a dirt color over the car plus a little light gray over the frame sill, then a final seal. Here’s the car this morning:

Onward to the next project. This one is an MDC gondola that started out bright yellow lettered for Illinois Terminal. This car already has three different weathering mediums applied, plus I’ve changed out the trucks and wheels, replacing the wheels with Intermountain semi scale wheels. Below are several photos of the project in progress. Still […]

Backdrops added….!
Although I posted this on the layout website, I thought I’d share this here on The Weathering Depot site as well. Yesterday I was able to purchase two beautiful photo backdrops made by Realistic Backgrounds. These were installed yesterday directly to the plain white wall behind the layout with Velcro strips and I must say […]

Quick side project….
Here’s a quick side project I started on to weather up this forgotten piece of rolling stock soon to go on eBay. This is an older Accurail car I’ve had for some time with very limited weathering. I decided to enhance the weathering by doing the car ends, underside, and adding rust and dirt to […]

Module work….
I didn’t like the sudden transition to the Arizona Rock & Mineral limestone ballast on the module, so I spent the morning painting over it to try to match their yard mix ballast on the rest of the modules, then weathered a bit of it per a video I came across on YouTube. Used a […]

Next project….
I’m currently on the last car for this current friend/client, a local modeler who models current day operations in California. This CSX hopper started out as shown below and was asked to be heavily weathered but with all the lettering and numbers visible. To do this I’ve simply taped it off to show it as […]

New arrival….
Just in is this Tangent PRR X58 class 50’ boxcar repainted to PC in 1973. A rare catch of a beautifully detailed model which will join the fleet. This car will receive minimal weathering to represent a newer car. You have to have one fairly clean car on the layout…!
