More tips.....
A few more tips and techniques here today. I use multiple rust products from three different manufacturers for my rust effects. One I use the most is rust texture by Vallejo, which I've mentioned many times. This I can apply as a stand alone texture, but usually I apply rust pigments or powders over top of it while wet to give different colors and effects. Another product I use for large rust spots or large areas is a product called corrosion texture by AK. This must be appli

Some thoughts on weathering...
With the upcoming RPM meet plus train show season coming up with the usual fall and winter shows here in Colorado, I thought I'd share a few thoughts on weathering, and some things I do in my weathering. One thing I do is I use an actual paint booth from MicroMark that's not vented to the outside, however, I use my own extra custom double filter on top of their standard filters for the booth. Second thing I recommend is whether you're working with acrylics or oils, always wea

AI for model railroads?....
A hot topic right now. Without starting a long debate or war here, my thoughts on using AI in our hobby. I obviously have used AI in several photos I posted on my Facebook page, namely the layout covered in snow and at sunset. I have also posted photos using AI for weathering ideas specifically for the layout. Both I think are helpful. Where AI really came in handy is the design of this website, done almost entirely with the help of AI. I think the website turned out exceptio

A quick note....
Some of you have probably noticed when first clicking on "My blog" button that it gives an error message along the lines of "can't find the page, but take a look at these other posts". When you click on that button it WILL bring up all my posts including every post from the old website. You also might have to hit your refresh page tab to bring up the last few blog posts. I'm trying to still tweak this and figure this one out!

More and more scrap….!
More scrap has arrived off an eBay vendor, which imo is pretty realistic and reasonable in price as well. A small amount went into the scrapyard but more went into the recently finished Sullivan Scrap gondola:

Switching the industries….
Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve been on the railroad as I’ve been on vacation. My first day back with the crew of Charlie, Jimmy, Fred, and Dan as we’re going to work all the industries on first trick today except for McGraw fuel and oil and Monsanto. After we fire up 8806 we first […]

Finished and in service….!
Just received this rare HO scale Sullivan Scrap gondola I have been looking for my Sullivan scrap yard. It was a pretty quick job in between these other projects to weather this one up. The car’s interior bay was done with a product called U-Rust and three different rust pigments, then followed up with an […]

Working the inbound cars…
So, another day on the railroad as we start out in the early morning getting ready to work the inbound cars the local has brought out from Riverside yard. Today’s crew is Fred as engineer, myself as brakeman, Jimmy as conductor, and Dan as flagman. First thing of course is firing up our usual locomotive […]
